Personal

OKJ (Real Name: Ong Kah Jing) is a Singapore-based Documentary Storyteller. His earnest to do justice to the stories told have seen him journey across the world – from covering Singapore’s athletes at the 2019 Philippine SEA Games to celebrating youths who were part of a 2018 global innovation programme in Oslo, Norway.

Here in Singapore, he had encapsulated the experiences of the Singapore Thieves Market prior to it’s demise in 2017. This led to TRESPASS: STORIES FROM SINGPAORE’S THIEVES MARKET (2018), a National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) best documentary. He had also explored the relationship between dementia and heritage through his Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) award-winning work, A SUNNY PAST (2019).

OKJ seeks to produce works that create empathetic connection between audiences to universal values through the intimate access to people and places. This ambition has resonated with brands and entities, including:

  • Sport Singapore: GetActive Narrative Video (2020), Bring Sport Back Narrative Video (2021)
  • Asian Venture Philanthropy Network: The Power of Networks in Myanmar (2019)
  • Tembusu College (NUS): The Conservation Conversation (2016) *NYFA Best Documentary

More recently, OKJ had ventured to hosting documentary content to broaden the types of stories he can tell:

  • Are Singaporeans Living In Public Housing Skyscrapers? (Independent OKJ Work)
  • Places We Will Miss: Sungei Road Thieves Market (Hosted for Channel News Asia)
  • Heavy Duty Engineering Aftersales Workshop Insights (Commissioned by Goldbell Group)

OKJ is currently in the midst of producing his own Documentary content on YouTube and TikTok that is globally intriguing and locally curious.
