Course Outline:
- Session 1: Introduction; Fundamentals of screenwriting; Close-analysis of short film; Preparing a short synopsis for idea pitching
- Session 2: Analysis of own chosen clip; Developing characters and themes
- Session 3: Idea pitching with feedback; Refining idea & developing long synopsis
- Session 4: Long synopsis sharing with feedback
- Session 5: Deepening characterisation and story stakes/conflict/tensions; Developing a script
- Session 6: Refined long synopsis and/or script sharing with feedback
- Session 7: Further refinement of long synopsis and/or script with feedback
- Session 8: Script-reading session with feedback
- Identify the fundamentals of creative screenwriting
- Pick up skills to close-analyse a short film
- Develop and pitch your idea through writing of short synopsis
- Set up your characters and themes meaningfully in relation to the story
- Refine and further develop a long synopsis and/or a script
- Analyse and/or script-read your work with your peers
- Receive guidance and feedback on your progress from the instructor
*Note that the technical formatting of scripts will not be explicitly covered as the course primarily focuses on the process of creative screenwriting.
