EMJ is a sensational conversationalist whose energy emanates in her hosting. Personal connection is at the forefront of her communication, be it one-on-one in her social life or with an audience. She is sure to read the room and facilitate a flow in dialogue or events. Having grown up without a TV, her favourite memory from childhood is memorising all the radio commercials she heard throughout the day, then reciting it to her parents after a long day’s work. On a weekly basis, she facilitates a group discussion on life topics.

Tell us about yourself.

My love for audiobooks, podcasts, voice acting and hosting started when I was seven years old. Growing up without a TV, the radio would be turned on all day and I would subconsciously memorize the commercials. At the end of the day, I would recite them to my parents just for laughs. Intrinsically, I find it easy to connect with people. It is a habit of mine to read the room and find the quietest person and try to coax them into a conversation. This energy is evident in my hosting when I engage with the audience.I am game to try anything and everything for fun’s sake: from lip syncing to popular movie scenes on Tiktok, to narrating certain views in real life.

As a part-time Digital Communications student, I had a 8 year head start as part of my church’s voluntary creative team. I have worked on flyers, booklets and website design. As well as, doing articles for the missions magazine or copy writing for social media. I strive to better myself academically as I work toward my dream of journalism in this ever evolving landscape of digital media.

As a Creative, you draw your inspiration from many sources. Who and what inspires you and if it is a place, where do you go to stimulate your creative juices?

The movie “Soul” really resonated with me. I do not have one remarkable “eureka” or inspiring moment, but I find snippets of it in my conversation with people. When I am listening to someone and their eyes lit up talking about their passion or ambitions, I feed off of that energy. In the midst of the humdrum of life, we all need to connect with someone who has found the flow in their existence and that rubs off on you. If you put me in a group of open, vulnerable and purposeful people (friends or strangers), my heart would engage and my brain would be bleeding colours.

If you can describe your creative style and approach in a few adjectives, what would it be?

Personable. I have not found a niche but I would always be asking questions about the audience or the people and how I can cater my work to connect with them. We exist to connect with each other be it in the form of verbal communication or creative work.

Where do you see yourself and your craft in the coming years?

Hopefully, you would hear my voice in a game or animated film. Character development wise, I see myself being part of a network of people who would encourage people that it is not too late to pursue what you want. Just like what is happening for me in this journey where I was encouraged to do the things that sparks joy in my life.
