Choreographers
*SCAPE

OMNI 2024

‘OMNI – to express a notion of entirety or universality.’

*SCAPE extends an invitation to emerging choreographers of all styles to take part in the inaugural edition of OMNI. OMNI, a contemporary dance incubation programme, provides emerging choreographers with the necessary time and space to nurture their artistic endeavors, delve into fresh concepts, and collaborate with peers. During this programme, choreographers have the chance to immerse themselves fully in their creative processes, refining their choreographic vision and elevating their technical skills.

Operating within a nurturing environment, the programme enables emerging choreographers to experiment, embrace risks, and push the boundaries of contemporary dance. Furthermore, it fosters a sense of camaraderie among dancers, promoting peer-to-peer learning and collaborative efforts.

The programme will accept up to 5 emerging choreographers per cycle. Selected choreographers will be supported with resources and mentorship opportunities (See below for more details). This programme will culminate in a showcase and artists sharing scheduled for January 2025 as part of Singapore Arts Week 2025 and the next Creative Arts Festival, Comma.

Residency Theme:

PAST x PRESENT = FUTURE

‘The familiar past, the unpredictable present, and the unknown future’

The equation “PAST x PRESENT = FUTURE” invites contemplation on how the echoes of the past resonate in the present, shaping the trajectory of what is yet to come.

This theme invites artists to delve into this interconnectedness by unearthing forgotten narratives, evolving perspectives and envisioning the influence of the past and present on our future. Drawing inspiration from tradition, heritage and ritualism, artists are encouraged to experiment with new techniques and unconventional themes and materials, creating works that not only mirror our current reality but also provide glimpses into the trajectory of where we are headed.

In this exploration, we seek works that pay homage to our roots while offering fresh and contemporary interpretations, weaving together the threads of past, present, and future.
