Ibrahim Zubir is a cinematographer based in Singapore. He pursued a degree in Digital Filmmaking and graduated from Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art Design Media. He has been a freelance cinematographer since his graduation. Primarily a narrative cinematographer, his work is defined by his composition, camera movement, and versatility to light and shoot all genres of projects.
Ibrahim’s recent short film work “Newborn” was screened as part of SGIFF official Festival Opening 2020. He had worked with Shoki Lin on their thesis short film “ADAM” which competed in the Cinéfondation Selection at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. He was also awarded the best cinematographer at the 2019 National Youth Film Awards for the same short film.
His other short film cinematography work, “Mao mao” directed by Gary Chia, won a Short Fiction Film Special Mention for the 25th international de Cine para Niños in Mexico in 2020.
His previous works include “Chasing Paper” which competed at the 2018 Busan International Film Festival and was screened at EnergaCameraimage International Film Festival 2018 under student etudes panorama.
Ibrahim has been a cinematographer on numerous corporate videos, documentaries, music videos, and short films. He was also the camera runner for “WestWorld” Season 3 during their filming in Singapore.
Ibrahim has worked with Singapore’s emerging and experienced directors and producers, transforming directors’ scripts, treatments, or concepts into visual expression. He recently worked as a camera operator for Charles Lim, the Director of Photography, and local award-winning film director Wee Li Lin on a short film.
Besides being a cinematographer, Ibrahim plans to grow into film producing and directing as a well-rounded filmmaker soon. With his experience and knowledge in filmmaking, he could collaborate with various individuals to build on crafts and instill an experience worth remembering.
